Letting God Guide Your Path

By Jena Fellers

“We have to. There’s no turning back,” I told my husband after witnessing a miracle. Shouting and jumping for joy, the realization of its full implication had just dawned.

My husband had felt we, as a family, were to feed meals to our community. Like him, I believed it was a nudge from the Holy Spirit. The problem was, we didn’t have the money for state certification, so we prayed. Two hours later, his cell buzzed. An old friend wanted to buy something that hadn’t sold in a year – the EXACT amount needed! If God answered that specifically, and quickly, I considered it more than confirmation. I considered it a mandate!

We responded by co-founding a ministry, serving hot meals on weeknights. This became a true act of faith, as we depended totally on God for funds, food, and volunteers for ten years – all because God quickly expanded it beyond our own comprehension and ability.

One million meals were served in those ten years, and lives of our patrons and volunteers transformed. This glorified God more than His wonderful servants.

This season of miracles strengthened my faith, but it was first strengthened in early adulthood.

AN EARLIER MIRACLE

In college, I received a diagnosis of an incurable, progressive eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP). He guided me through obstacles to graduation and beyond.

God called my husband and I to pastor a church, giving us a miracle in the form of a vision and a Christian play to answer the call. I didn’t even think I could be a pastor’s wife being visually impaired. Relying on Him completely, my faith grew by leaps and bounds. I even became ordained myself.

Wanting acreage to homestead when retiring, our children decided to join our endeavors. Larger property found, paperwork submitted, then a bombshell exploded! The seller forgot to disclose a windmill lease on the land – one preventing any building. Not even a tree could be planted without their permission.

MORE MIRACLES

God made a way. The banker declared it a miracle. He hadn’t seen any company rewrite a lease in his thirty years there.

That Red Sea miracle encouraged us to stand again when we learned a week after moving, it would be impossible for us to have electricity. Evidently, God’s ways weren’t ours. We’d have to rely on His wisdom to live off-grid. This is probably why my friends say I walk by faith, physically and spiritually.

I want others to have hope and strength that comes from a deeper faith to handle ever-increasing hardships that will last until Jesus returns. In my latest book, Illogical Faith in a Logical World. I guide you through Seven steps created from Proverbs 3:5,6, offering a new understanding of faith – its purpose, their benefits, and the way it impacts the world.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge him,

and he will make straight your paths.

Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

THE SEVENTH STEP

Here is an excerpt from my seventh step:

In all of our ways means “in everything we do.”

Acknowledge means to admit and accept something to be real or true. Admit God’s ways are higher than ours and He knows best.

Seek His will in everything we do. Placing this amount of confidence, trust, or faith, in God will let Him guide or direct our path, the way a sighted guide leads me!

When we surrender every breath, word, and action to God’s, it will be easy to trust God enough to guide our every step, regardless of how illogical it seems. This is “walking by faith” and where many miracles are encountered.

The Apostle Paul understood these verses. Paul knew what it was like to walk by faith, both physically and spiritually.

God had a plan for his life.  He was one of the worst sinners before encountering Jesus on the road to Damascus.

His faith journey began with three days of blindness, and the miracle of returned sight.

Paul continued to trust God to lead him to, and through, every encounter. His faith grew in both tribulation and miracles. God’s grace was sufficient, making Paul content in all circumstances.

When I let God direct my path, it removes confusion, keeps me steady walking in His perfect will, and protects me from nearby danger.

When I let God direct my path, it removes confusion, keeps me steady walking in His perfect will, and protects me from nearby danger.

I imagine the Israelites felt this way when following the pillar of cloud by day and of fire by night. How cool and convenient would that be?  Talk about the perfect GPS!

God guides. This means He:

  • leads and directs
  • doesn’t push or drag
  • isn’t our boss or servant

He is our Heavenly Father, and we are His children, with whom he desires a relationship.

The more time spent in prayer and reading God’s Word, the more we’ll let Him lead.

As God has guided my faith journey, I’ve been blessed to witness numerous miracles in areas of provision, protection, and healing. We have even witnessed the amazing feat of the dead coming back to life in such a sweet and surprising manner.

Yes, I had some doubt.

Your faith does not have to be at a specific level for God to perform a miracle. It is about Him being glorified, and your willingness to be an empty vessel for Him to work through.

Miracles have a purpose. They build our faith, but the main reason is to glorify God. This lets unbelievers know He is real.

All nations feared the Israelites after hearing what happened to the Egyptians. There was no doubt they knew the one true God existed. His power was evident to all.

Imagine trusting God to this point where others fear our God but know He is real – all because we’re walking by faith and not sight.

We can be part of changing a logical world by living illogical faith.

We can be part of changing a logical world by living illogical faith.

Why not place your trust in the One who has a plan for your life, knows best, and wants to guide every step of your path?

You might even see a miracle or two along the way.
